Election Commissioners
Qualifications to be a Commissioner:
- Must be a qualified voter in Rapides Parish not entitled to assistance in voting.
- Must not be a candidate for election to public office or be a member of the immediate family of a candidate for public office in the precinct you are to serve.
- Must not have been convicted of an election offense.
- Must successfully complete a course of instruction provided by the Clerk of Court.
- Must provide the Clerk of Court with correct party affiliation.
- Must not be a law enforcement officer.
The responsibilities of a Commissioner:
- Complete a general course of instruction and attend any pre-election class required.
- Working election day from 5:30 a.m. to approximately 8:30 p.m.
- Setting up and operating the voting machines during the day.
- Identifying voters, determining ballot selection and handling all election paperwork.
- Enforcement of election laws.
- Closing the machine and completing any paperwork that needs to be delieverd to the Clerk.
Certified commissioner pay:
- $200.00 per election for commissioners.
- $250.00 per election for commissioners-in-charge.
